Last updated: May 20, 2026
1. Who we are
Verse ("we", "us", or "our") operates the website and application at verse.academy (the "Service"). Verse is an AI-powered English speaking practice product. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information when you use the Service.
If you have questions, contact us at support@verse.academy.
2. Information we collect
We collect information in the following ways:
- Account information: When you sign in with Google, we receive information from your Google account such as your email address, display name, and profile picture, which is stored through our authentication provider (Supabase).
- Conversation data: When you use the Service, we store your conversations, including message text, transcriptions of your speech, AI responses, and language feedback (such as grammar, vocabulary, and fluency scores).
- Audio recordings: Voice messages you send are stored in our cloud storage (Supabase) so you can replay them and so we can process them for transcription and AI responses.
- Subscription and billing data: If you subscribe, payment is processed by Polar. We store subscription status, plan name, amounts, and billing period dates in our database. Polar processes payment details; we do not store your full payment card number.
- Usage data: We track usage needed to operate the Service, such as AI-generated audio duration (for example, a monthly limit of 120 minutes of AI audio per subscribed account).
- Analytics: We use Vercel Analytics to collect aggregated, non-identifying usage information about how the Service is accessed.
- Demo usage: The public demo on our site does not require an account. Demo interactions may still be processed by our AI providers as described below.
3. How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Provide and maintain the Service, including AI conversations, speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and feedback.
- Authenticate you and manage your account.
- Process subscriptions and enforce access to paid features.
- Enforce usage limits and protect the Service from abuse.
- Improve reliability, security, and product quality.
- Respond to support requests and communicate with you about the Service.
- Comply with legal obligations.
4. AI and third-party service providers
To deliver the Service, we use trusted third-party providers. Your content may be sent to these providers only as needed to operate features you use:
These providers process data on our behalf under their own terms and privacy policies. We do not sell your personal information or your audio recordings to third parties for advertising.
- Supabase: authentication, database, and file storage.
- DeepSeek: conversational AI responses.
- Deepgram: speech-to-text and text-to-speech.
- Polar: subscription checkout and billing webhooks.
- Vercel: hosting and analytics.
- Google: sign-in (OAuth) when you choose to authenticate with Google.
5. Legal bases (where applicable)
If you are in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or similar jurisdictions, we process personal data based on: performance of our contract with you (providing the Service), legitimate interests (security, improvement, fraud prevention), and consent where required (for example, where you choose to sign in or subscribe).
6. How long we keep information
We retain your account and conversation data while your account is active. You may delete individual conversations from your dashboard, which removes associated messages and audio files from our storage.
If you delete your account in Settings, we delete your authentication account. You must cancel an active subscription before account deletion. Some data may remain in backups for a limited period or where required by law.
Billing records may be retained by Polar and by us as needed for accounting, tax, and dispute resolution.
7. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing.
To exercise other privacy rights, email support@verse.academy. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
- Delete conversation history: Use your dashboard to delete individual conversations.
- Delete your account: Use Settings → Delete Account (after canceling any active subscription).
- Access or update profile information: Available through your account and Google account settings.
- Cancel subscription: Manage billing through your account billing page and Polar checkout portal where available.
8. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls, and secure storage for audio files. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. International transfers
Your information may be processed in countries other than your own, including where our service providers operate. We take steps to ensure appropriate safeguards when data is transferred internationally.
10. Children
The Service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us at support@verse.academy and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and update the "Last updated" date. Material changes may also be communicated through the Service or by email where appropriate.
